Every 52 minutes in the United States, a life is lost to an eating disorder. Anorexia nervosa has the second highest mortality rate of any psychiatric illness, following substance use disorders.

The SKAN Foundation exists to change that.

We are the only nonprofit solely dedicated to funding the cutting-edge scientific research needed to uncover the causes of anorexia nervosa, enable its prevention, and deliver a cure. Guided by a world-class Medical and Scientific Advisory Board, we have already rigorously evaluated more than 50 research proposals and launched multiple breakthrough studies at leading institutions.

Our goal is clear and urgent: a world without deaths from anorexia nervosa by the end of this decade.

Your support funds the science that makes this possible.

  • We believe in providing information, making connections, and supporting research.

SKAN is a 501(c)(3) public charity formed to support the eating disorders community worldwide through facilitating social community connections, establishing linkages to medical and mental health service providers, and providing up-to-date information on eating disorders.

  • Our vision is a world where no one’s life is lost as a consequence of anorexia nervosa. Together, we can combat anorexia nervosa's grip until we find a cure. Your support ignites hope and ensures a healthier future for our children.

  • Our mission is to identify and support novel high quality medical research that provides a pathway to the primary prevention of anorexia nervosa.
